It was a calm day in the park. The skies are clear, and a gust of wind passes by every now and then. The children are happily playing in the playground, some families are having a picnic while chilling in the shade, and a variety of vendors lined up the sidewalks.
One of the children running around is this little girl who looks cute with her two pigtails and a blue frilly dress. She noticed a boy wearing a gray sweater sitting alone on one of the nearby benches as he watched the others play and run around.
“Mommy, can I go over there?” she asked her mom as she pointed in the boy’s direction.
“Okay, princess, but don’t get too far okay? I’ll just stay here and look over you.” her mother answered as she patted her head.
“Okay, mommy!” she answered as she hopped away happily.
The little girl then went to the boy.
“Hello! Why are you alone?” she cutely beamed at the little boy sitting on the bench.
The boy just stared at her, surprised.
“Hi! Can you hear me?” the little girl said as she waved her hand in front of the boy’s face.
“M-me?” the boy finally uttered, surprised still evident in his innocent face.
“Yes, I am talking to you! My name is Aya. What’s your name?”
“I am Kyle.”
“Okay so, why are you alone here? You should play with the others too!”
“But they all are ignoring me, and you are the only one who approached me.”
“Hmm. Okay then, Kyle let’s be friends!” she energetically said as she held his hand for a shake hand.
The little boy shies away at the sudden gesture.
“I don’t know why they are ignoring you, but I will play with you. Let’s go over there!” the little girl dragged the little boy to the swing and sandbox side.
And there they played around together – taking turns in the swing and scooping sand in the sandbox. When they got tired, they sat at the grass panting from too much laughing and fooling around.
“Do you know what that is?’ the little boy pointed at the photo booth at the park.
“Oh, mommy told me it’s like a big camera! It takes a photo and prints it right away.” She explained with hand gestures which made the boy laugh.
“Do you want to try it, Kyle?”
“I want to, but we don’t have coins, right?”
“No, it does not need a coin. My mommy tried it last time and we just have to push the button and pose in front of it.” “Come on, let’s take a picture!”
And so, the two children tried the photo booth.
“Kyle, push the button and run here okay?”
“Okay!”
The little boy pushed the button and ran beside the little girl. The girl did the peace sign posed as the little boy just smiled.
After the click, they ran towards the photo booth to get the photo polaroid, but they only saw a black image.
“Why is there no picture?” the little girl confusedly asked as she flipped the polaroid back and forth.
“Oh! I think we just had to wait a little bit so it will show up?” the little boy answered.
“Really?”
“I think because I saw it on the TV last time!” the little boy answered.
“Wow, that’s cool!”
“Ayaaaa!” their chatting was interrupted by a woman’s voice that called at a distance.
“Oh no, mommy is calling me. Come with me, I will introduce you to my mommy.” She told the boy as she ran toward her mother.
“Mommy!”
“Oh, there you are my princess! Let’s go home already, okay?”
“Wait, Mom, I made a new friend!” she excitedly told her mom.
“He’s he – wait where did Kyle go?” she pouted as she looked behind and saw that there was no Kyle.
“Aw, I think he already went home, mommy. Even when I told him I will introduce him to you.” She cutely pouted.
“Just introduced him next time. I’m sure you will see him here again.”
“Okay. Oh, mommy we took a picture together in the photo booth earlier! Here it is.” The little girl handed the polaroid to her mother.
“Hello, how’s my princess?” someone spoke behind them which made the little girl turn away.
“Hello, daddyyyy!” She cheerfully ran towards her father and her father lifted her up.
The mother just smiled as she lovingly stared at her husband and daughter.
She looked at the polaroid her daughter handed her and showed a confused face.
“But I thought they took a picture together?” she mumbled to herself as she slipped the polaroid with a picture of her daughter doing a peace sign pose alone in her sling bag.
