“FLYNNNNN!!”, I shouted outside their house.
“SORRY GIVE ME TEN MINUTES!”, Flynn shouted back from his window.
"WE’RE GONNA BE LATE, YOU KNOW!”, I shouted back and rolled my eyes as if he could see me.
Aunt Fia, his mother, opened the gate for me as she shakes her head while smiling, probably because she’s used to our daily morning routine – shouting at each other.
“Good morning Aunt Fia! Did Uncle already go to work, Auntie?”, I greeted her as I sheepishly smiled and did a peace sign for being so noisy first thing in the morning.
“Yes, he left early since they would be busy in the office. By the way, did you already eat breakfast, Nish? Come, join us.”
“It’s okay, Auntie. I already ate at home and we’re also kind of in a rush.”
“Oh, yes, today is the last day of Intramurals. I’ll go check with Flynn, I bet he’s up until 2am playing games or whatever.”
I laughed as Auntie sighed and walked upstairs.
I decided to stand in front of their mirror and fixed my hair. Today is Day 3/3 of intrams and I’m wearing our girls’ volleyball team uniform, a red jersey and red shorts with black details. We will have our final match for today, but I guess, we’ll be late for the opening in the morning because that jerk is surely taking his time.
Flynn and I were neighbors and frenemies for as long as I remember. We went to the same high school, so we often walk to school together, along with our other friends. But I’m guessing the others have already gone, and here I am, stuck with him.
I heard footsteps going down and saw Flynn hurrying downstairs. He’s wearing a similar uniform to me, since he is from the boys’ volleyball club. I rolled my eyes as he smiled and greeted me.
“Morning, Nishiee~!”
“Shut up, you ruined my morning for being so slow.”
He just laughed at me.
“Mom we’re going!” he shouted to Aunt Fia upstairs as he hurriedly picked a couple of bread and drank water in one shot.
“Take care you two!”, his mother shouted back.
“Bye, Auntie!”

Right after we got out of the gate, we looked at each other, as we’re probably thinking of the same thing. We are literally running late now.
“Ready?” I rolled my eyes at his smirking face.
“Of course.”
With the count of “1, 2, 3!”, we raced our way to the school, so we somehow avoided being late.
As we are huffing like mad dogs, Dolly and the others are laughing at us at the gate.
“Here comes the late couple.” Ren jokingly teased.
“Shut up, Ren”, I rolled my eyes as I grabbed the unopened water bottle from Dolly.
“You gave Nish water, but where’s mine?” Flynn said as he extended his hands to Ren.
“Oops, sorry. We only bought one. Just share with Nish.” Dolly looked at me and winked.
This girl! I will remember to kick her later.
I sighed as I threw the water bottle at Flynn. He catch it with no effort and smiled sheepishly.
“Thanks, Nish the loser.”, he told me, referring to the race.
I rolled my eyes and just decided to go straight to our clubroom. I wonder why I even like him in the first place.
-------
It was lunchtime and I wonder how I got in this situation. Dolly is cornering me with questions about Flynn.
“What are you two, exactly?”
“Frenemies? Neighbors?” I shrugged, making Dolly scowl.
“What?”, I asked her since she is making an indescribable face.
“You have feelings for Flynn, right?”
I may have never told anyone about my one-sided crush, but if there is one thing who would definitely notice it, it would be Dolly.
“What?”
“Come on, Nish. You cannot fool me.”
“Fine. It’s not like I was trying to hide it, but he does not need to know that. I have no plans of confessing to that stupid guy anyways.”
“Oh my god, so you do like Flynn??”, Dolly asked.
“I already told you, okay? Yes, I like Flynn but I a—”
“NISH!” I nearly jumped in my seat as I heard Flynn’s voice. He did not hear it right? Please tell me he did not hear what I said.
“W-what?” I nervously asked,
“The girls volleyball club’s captain asked me to go fetch you since the tournament is starting.”
“Oh, uh, okay.”

The intramurals had come to an end and everyone is congratulating us as we came out 2nd place overall in the volleyball tournament, while the boys’ volleyball team was champion. We huddled and took pictures together. Our club adviser even ordered pizza for a celebration!
After the mini-celebration, I decided to find Flynn to congratulate him. I saw him at the side of the gym, so I called him out.
“Hey, Stupid Flynn! Congratulations!”
He shook his head and laughed at me as he shouted back.
“Congrats, too, Nish the loser!”
I am still on cloud nine from our victory, so I don’t know why but I run towards him, arms extended. I was expecting a high-five, but I was surprised when he hugged me instead, and whispered words that left my whole face blushing red.
